This study, was aimed to investigate in-vitro efficacy of ceftaroline in the Streptococcus pyogenes strains isolated from upper respiratory tract specimens. A total of 40 isolates were included in the study, and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of ceftaroline were determined using the microdilution method. MIC range of the isolates were found between 0.003-0.125 µg/ml, MIC50 was determined as 0.015 µg/ml, and MIC90 was 0.03 µg/ml. According to these findings, ceftaroline was detected as susceptible against all S.pyogenes isolates in the our study. In conclusion, ceftaroline could be a good alternative in the treatment of the infections caused by S. pyogenes. First data about the efficiency of ceftaroline against S. pyogenes has been provided with this study.
