Surgical Treatment of Pyopneumothorax Developed Due to Rheumatoid Arthritis

Aim: We report the management of one patient with rheumatoid arthritis developed pyopneumothorax. Case Report: Fifty seven-year old male patient with rheumatoid arthritis fors ix years was admitted to our emergency unit with complaints of fever, dyspnea on exercise, coughing, continuing for last 10 days. Right hydropneumothorax was observed in chest radiography. Thoracentesis was performed initially. The patient was treated by chest tube drainage. The thoracotomy was planned because of the lungs were not expansed by the performed treatment. The thicked pleura was removed at the operation. Conclusion: Pathological findings demonstrated rheumatoid nodules.
