Thirty Wistar rats were anesthesizeci with k.etamine hydroclorure and the abdornen was opened thorough a midline incision 4 cm. tong. Omenturn was tied with 310 black silk suture.rnaterial in 3 clifferent paris and on the right side, 3 x 0,5 crn. patches of the parietal peritoneum and underlying mus.cle were resected. The resuitant defect ciosed with inderrupted 310 black silk suture. We formed 3 groups each including 10 rats. The first group was control with no instillate. second group, 50.000 U of aprotinin and in third group 2 nıL of new poviclone-iodine1PVP solution was injected into the periitoneal cavity. All rats were sacrified at one week and assessment -of adhesion formation was made. Treatrnent with aprotinin and povidone-iodinelPVP SOlidit:»8 resulted in fewer adhesions then controls (p 0.01). There was no significant difference between group 2 and 3 (p> 0.05). in conclusion, this study shows that aprotinin and povidone lodine/PVP solution are both effective in reducing peritoneal adhesions.
