Soğuk tiroid nodülü tanısı ile Uludağa Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Genel Cerrahi kliniğine yatan 32 hastaya Vim Silverman iğnesi ile kesici iğne biopsisi uygulanmış, tüm olgular operasyona alınarak sonuçlar ameliyat materyalinin histopatolojik tanısı ile karşılaştırılmıştır. 32 olgudan 2'sinde iğne biopsisi ile yeterli doku örneği sağlanamamış, 30 olguda iğne biopsisi ve ameliyat materyalinin hisiopatolojik tanıları arasında uygunluk görülmüştür. Literatürdeki iğne biopsisi serileri de gözden geçirilerek bu yöntemin güvenilir, tehlikesiz ve gereksiz tiroidektorni oranını azaltma yönünde kullanılması gerekli bir yöntem olduğu vurgulanmıştır.
