A Material Decreased Tissue Damage in Tarsorraphy: Silicone Rod

Aim: Tarsorraphy is formation of lids adhesion by approaching the eyelids. Not only eyelid’s anatomy but also functions can be damaged because of using suture during adhesion. The aim of our study is to adhese the eyelid in a safe method easily without disturbing the tarsal structures, eyelid architecture and function. Case report: The silicone rod was used in the process of tarsorraphy application for eleven patients whose ages were ranging from 10 to 65 in 2001-2005 in our clinic. Tarsorraphy was used without any complications in postoperative follow-up period in all patients. Conclusion: Silicone rod is an alternative tarsorraphy material in order to prevent the damage to eyelids and tarsal structures.
