Role of Mycoplasmas in Urinary Tract Infections

Urine specimens fromtotally 228 adult patients (146 worrıen, 82 men) suffering from urinary tract infection were examined for Mycoplasma Species. Ureaplasma urealyticum was found in 22 of males (27.5%) and 43 of females (29.6%). Myco-plasma hominis was found in 6 of males (7.5 %) and 17 of ferriales (11.7 %). Both of the microorganisms were detected in one male ( 1.25%) and 7 females (4.8%) only. Results were compared with those of the controls. In approach to a patient whose urine culture negative, and with urethritis resistant to penicillin therapy a Mycoplasrna infection must be concerned.
