Between 1982-1987 seventy-one patients with pure mitral stenosis was operated at the Department of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular surg. Selçuk Üniversitesi School of Medicine. There was no mortality. Early post operative and long term term results revealed that a good palliation was achieved in of the patients. Although open heart surg facilities were available at the department emphasis was made in the thought that closed mitral valvotomy stili has a place for the surgical treatment of pure mitral stenosis.
